The New "Traditional"

It used to be that when the media wanted to follow up on a news story or book a guest on a show, the show's booker would contact the source's "people" to engage.

Today talk show host Larry King contacted director Kevin Smith via Twitter. Completely transparent exchange:

Via @kingsthings "Lots of news about KevinSmith & Southwest, I would love to interview him about this tonight" Mr. King: do you know @Oprah?

Mr. @kingsthings: I'm in L.A., you're in D.C. So please understand when I say this: I'm not going anywhere NEAR an airport again this week.

Via @kingsthings "good news: I'm in LA, too. No need to go to airport. Would love for you to stop by tonite and we can talk." 'kay. Thanks!

An aside on this: when the whole @ThatKevinSmith, @SouthwestAir exchange was going on, @SouthwestAir tweeted Mr. Smith, asking that he "follow" them so that they could "direct message" him (odd that they'd think there was anything they could do to make amends in a 140 character format). I applaud Mr. Smith for keeping their exchange transparent so that everyone could see how the airline responded.
